This design features a quote said by Luke Skywalker in “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.” Luke says this in one of the most powerful scenes in the entire Star Wars franchise. With the fury and hate of the dark side powering his blows, Luke pummels his father down, cutting off his left hand, and leaving just a smoldering mechanical stump. Luke can destroy his father with one blow, but does not. The Emperor, who has been watching the entire time, is thrilled. His plan is succeeding and he might soon have a new powerful apprentice at his side. After defeating Darth Vader, his father, Luke turns to the Emperor and throws away his lightsaber, his only line of defense, and says this line. “You failed your highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me.” Cementing the fact that Luke will never turn to the dark side, even if his life depended on it, for the fate of the galaxy. Luke is willing to sacrifice himself in order to redeem his father and save the galaxy. This is the opposite of what Vader might have expected at this point. The emotional conflict arises within Vader, the memories come flying back to him. He was once a Jedi, who fell to the dark side at the hands of the Emperor in order for a chance to save the woman he loved. He was Anakin Skywalker, the chosen one. Will Darth Vader accept defeat and allow his son to die at the hands of the man who seduced him into the dark side, or will he be Anakin Skywalker and fulfill the prophecy of the chosen one? There is still good within him, and Luke’s words have convinced Vader that that is so. With all his strength, Vader sacrifices himself to save his son and throw the Emperor down to his death. The prophecy is fulfilled. He failed to save his mother, he failed to save his wife, but Anakin finally had the power to save his son. Luke did kill Vader, but not by a lightsaber strike. He killed Vader with love and compassion, and in that way, brought his father Anakin, the Jedi Knight, back to life.
