I TOO WANT A WOUND

This is a poster dedicated to Guts and Casca from Berserk. Guts and Casca did not initially get along when Guts joined the band of the Hawk, she had felt that he took her place as Griffith’s right hand warrior. But she began to see him for who he was when he protected her after she had fallen off a cliff, retrieving her from the water below, and using the heat from his body to keep her alive. He then fought a hundred men so that she could escape when she was weak and vulnerable. Guts became someone who supported Casca in her desire to be a capable leader, and Casca became someone that Guts could let his guard down around and show his weakness to. It took Guts’s love for Casca and him being able to face the trauma of his childhood, to open up to her and truly show his vulnerabilities to someone who didn't turn away from him after doing so. Casca truly accepted him for all of what he was, the pain and suffering included, when Casca hugs Guts from behind in one of the most beautiful panels in the entire manga. She tells him, “I too want a wound that I can say you gave me”. She's breaking through a layer of comfortability within Guts that had not existed since his early childhood. Being able to sleep next to Casca naked and vulnerable and not have the anxiety of needing his sword next to him represented how guts had overcame this. And even though the past will always be there and never be changed, he was able to move forward and into a new paradigm with Casca by his side.
