Self-sabotage, also known as behavioral dysregulation, "allows" us to predict what is going to happen which gives us the illusion of control over our pain & suffering. Individuals who experience this have difficulty accepting their emotional response which can lead to behavioral dysregulation including, injurious behavior, low self-esteem, diminishing mental health, self-criticism, excessive substance use, and impulsivity. Self-sabotaging behaviors can affect one's personal and professional success, as well as prevent them from accomplishing their goals. Self-sabotage can come from a fear of failure due to past experiences, and also cause a person to be mistrustful of others. One may have "everything," but still feel alone, push everyone away, be unable to forgive themselves for their mistakes. Wether it be on the outside or the inside, they don't like who they are, thus finding it hard to believe anyone else would too. Sometimes they’d rather disappoint before they could be disappointed. A metaphorical ball and chain is attached to someone suffering from this behavior, holding them down, unable to let go, unable to break the chain.
